Georgia lawmakers staged violent fights with extremists and were caught on video

A fight between Georgian Dream delegates Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze took place at a hotel in Abu Dhabi. Sputnik-Georgia wrote about this and posted a video of the incident.

According to the publication, footage of the altercation is “going viral on social media.”

“The incident occurred in one of the hotel's restaurants, where deputies of the ruling Georgian Dream Party Irakli Zarkua and Viktor Sanikidze were relaxing. A man with oppositional ideology vacationing in the same hotel offended them and the Georgian authorities,” the video comments noted.

According to Vzglyad newspaper, the brawl occurred after radical opposition supporter Lasha Gabitashvili approached parliamentarians in a hotel restaurant for two consecutive days and called them “Russian slaves.”

Let us remember that mass protests broke out in Georgia before. Protesters were unhappy with the voting results in the parliamentary election, which the Georgian Dream party won. The country's president, Salome Zurabishvili, declared it “completely fake” and refused to recognize the election results. Following the announcement that the country's accession to the EU was suspended until 2028, as well as in connection with the presidential election in the republic, protests increased.

Zurabishvili's mandate expires on December 29, 2024. On this day, the inauguration of new Georgian leader Mikheil Kavelashvili took place. The former president announced that she would not leave the presidential palace but later vacated it. Protesters came to support her with American flags. It was later reported that Zurabishvili had become a Kissinger Fellow at the McCain Institute at the University of Arizona in the United States.
